Ultra-Act Ultraman Mebius Review

I’m brought back an old desk light of mine to avoid yellow photos, let’s hope this works out :P

Ultra-Act Mebius

I used to watch Ultraman when I was a kid, but I haven’t watched any of the new Ultraman since the 90’s. That means I stopped at around the time before Ultraman Tiga, WHICH also means, I know nothing about Mebius except it has a cool design. That is pretty much the reason why I bought it, beside it being on sale. Haha… :P

So I’ve heard some bad reviews about the Ultra-Act line, about how the plastic seems cheap and flimsy. And how the balance isn’t all that good in comparison to the S.H. Figuarts, Figma, Revoltech lines. I’ll point it all out along the review with some things I do like about Ultra-Act.

First thing’s first, since it’s a big complain amongst people. The flimsy, cheap plastic feel do exist and some may be already able to tell by the 2 pictures, that there’s alot of gaps between joints and pieces don’t seem to fit tightly together throughout the body. I understand where that approach to go about the Ultra-Act line may be seen as cheap BUT, it is because the plastic have a good measure of gaps in between them, so that the figure can be more pose-able.  It is much easier to pose Mebius in a lively pose than it is to pose S.H.Figuarts and Figma’s.

All the negatives in this 1 photo

As the caption says, everything that’s bad is visable in this photo… and maybe the next 1 as well. The thing that pisses me off the most, and the only thing I can’t get over is that gem thing that’s on his left arm, KEEPS FALLING OFF. Like it’s not even a 60% chance it’d fall off or anything close to half the chance. It’s like if u put Mebius on an angle that’s not in favor of gravity, and you give it 1 good shake, that thing will fall out FOR SURE.

So yes, the head will fall off during normal occasions as well due to how it’s designed to stay on the body… Ball joint…  I’ve never seen that shallow of a ball joint ever… And the hands… are ball joints as well…

Ball joint hands are only problems because I’ve had bad experiences with older S.I.C’s ball joint systems, where when you swap them, they’ll break. Fortunately, Ultra-Act doesn’t seem to be that fragile, but still kind of annoying to swap hands when the ball swivel around when you try to shove that wrist hole onto it.

Enough with the negatives, and why people might dislike Ultra-Act for their choice in materials and their designs. On with the accessories, Mebius doesn’t have any holdable weapons, being the Ultraman that he is, all accessories are effect parts, part swaps for the energy gem things, and spare hands.

Karate Chop/ Bowing hands

First up for spare hands are the polite, bowing hands… or…the  スペシウム光線 preparation hands…

Relaxed open hands

Then you have the ready to wrestle hands… or…

Back hand to the face for both the size comparison in the show AND in toylines

Back hand…

Then… effect parts…

Effect part 1

Mebius will come with a fist effect part to of course, let you shoot photos of him punching each S.H. Figuarts in the face.

Effect Part 2

Then they’ll have their signature スペシウム光線 to shoot every Kamen Rider in the face with.

The third effect part is actually in the first photo of this blog, which I didn’t take any pictures of, because I forgot. (it’s the energy sword on its arm… comes out from that gem thing) But besides that, like the gem on its arm without the effect part, it falls off just as often and it’s just as frustrating to keep on. :P

After decades… Ultraman still runs out of battery/energy….

The chest part swap ( Blue to red) is also 1 of its accessory. Just so you can show visitors how Ultraman run out of energy in every episode for it to beep and remind every Ultraman to use their ridiculously powerful laser to 1 hit K.O. the monster… which they can do from the start of every fight… but they choose not to, cause wrestling in cities, and breaking buildings are 1 of their many hobbies.

Next Review… Cho Den-O

When I was younger, I use to argue with my older brother that Kamen Riders are stronger than Ultraman… and of course him being older, he resorted to a more logical argument stand point, like how Ultraman is 10x bigger, and they’ll just step on ANY Kamen Rider and the fight would be over… Thank God for Kamen Rider J, and the collaboration movie where Kamen Rider Ichigo took some steroids and turned into the same size as the original Ultraman… lol
