My Tools – Eye Shadow Sticks

Tamiya Weathering sets are fantastic and easy to use on model kits. BUT, I find the smudge stick too fragile… 2/2 weather smudge sticks started tearing apart for me. So in turn of that, I had to go find replacement sticks to replace the original smudge sticks that came along with the Tamiya Weathering sets.

I tried getting an eye shadow stick from the cosmetic section. But the end on the eye shadow stick turned out to be too dense and not loose enough to smudge the weathering evenly onto the plastic kits. That set me back on the quest to find replacement smudge sticks…

So then I came across a set of eye shadow brushes in my local Walmart. Which turns out to be quite effective for weathering.

So to be honest, I don’t know the brand name but this is the packaging of it. (SPAresource??) Cause I think I read somewhere else on the box it’s called MAC or something.

Anyways, so I bought it because it has a bunch of those eye shadow brushes, saving me quite a few trips to get more as time goes by. I also asked an expert ( my girlfriend) on how well these work, cosmetic-wise, and she told me this brand is quite alright in the cosmetic field but these eye shadow brushes are meant to be disposable after 1 time use.

(I counted how many MG’s I have with me so far… and I thought… it should be more than enough for now… and besides, I’m just trying how well these work at this stage, so I shouldn’t care too much even if it doesn’t last me forever.)

So when you open the package, it comes in 2 separate packs, and they are packaged so intensively that I got frustrated. Once again, I asked the expert why that is. And she told me it’s because it is for COSMETIC USE not for my Gundams, so they try to keep it bacteria free… (felt like I got owned by the expert for asking stupid questions… lol)

So they have 12 in this pack, which makes 24 for the box. For me, that’s way more than enough even though they’re disposables. They work really well, in comparison to that long eye shadow stick in the first photo. Almost on par with the Tamiya Weathering Set brush, just not as well made for the fingers to hold on to, but the application aspect is great.

If you have the same problem as me with the Tamiya Weathering Set, then I’d recommend getting these, unless you have a sister in the house with cosmetic tools…
